Conference proceedings and their impact on global research
Conferences and other scientific gatherings add an important perspective to the overall research picture, and are often the first place where research ideas are presented and discussed. Conference Proceedings Citation Index, now an index within Web of Science, enables use of cited reference searching to thoroughly explore proceedings literature.
Conference Proceedings Citation Index users will also be able to access over 110,000 proceedings from the most significant conferences and scientific gatherings worldwide. This thorough integration of book-based proceedings content with journal literature enables users to conduct cited reference searches and compile authoritative citation metrics for proceedings literature.
Researchers in fields such as computer science, engineering, and technology will find it easier to validate the worth of their work during tenure hearings and in any discussion where performance metrics are an important factor. Proceedings authors and conference organizers can use the Times Cited capability to easily show the impact of individual papers, and can also create metrics at the level of the individual conference, the sponsoring organization, or the conference series. In addition, department heads will be able to construct a more complete picture of their department’s or institution’s productivity and influence.
Two editions of Conference Proceedings Citation Index are available: Science, and Social Sciences and Humanities. Each offers proceedings coverage to 1990, and together they cover 256 disciplines.
